"Surendra Mohan Pathak (The King of Deceit and the King of Love)" (Hindi: सुरेन्द्र मोहन पाठ) is a book written by Surendra Mohan Pathak after his release from prison during the period of Emergency (India). Surendra Mohan Pathak (31 July 1879 – 20 October 1963) was an Indian author and one of the most prominent writers in the Devanagari script. He is known for his Hindi novels and also translated several modern English novels into Hindi. His famous works include: "The King of Deceit and the King of Love" and "The Arena". Pathak dedicated his life to writing. He was a member of Maharaja's Sanskrit Sabha in Nagpur, he joined the famous Agra Baniya Group, which founded The Royal Grammar School in Farrukhabad, UP. Surendra Mohan Pathak got involved with the government to help rural people. He was a member of All India Producers Cooperative Union, All India Muslim League, Hindi Sahitya Sabha and Agrarian Reforms Association. He also worked with Maharaja's Sanskrit Saheb of Baroda in preserving the ancient texts of Vedas in Devanagari script in Sanskrit or Marathi. "Surendra Mohan Pathak" is dedicated to his wife Savita Gopalam Pathak (सुविता गोपाला पाठ) who died during delivery. Surendra Mohan Pathak wrote in Hindi, Urdu and Sanskrit. He wrote about 700 books including translations of various English novels into Hindi, which were published in weekly installments.
